Lap Nguyen is a young performing artist and theatre maker whose works are primarily based in Australia. He has loved performing since the age of 12 in Vietnam having featured in multiple musicals, most notably “Blood Brothers” (2014).
Lap has recently completed the HSC and is continuously getting involved in shows and producing his own ideas and content. Many of his works are movement-orientated and he prefers to transcend narratives through physical actions rather than traditional text. He is also one of the 20 students across the state chosen by the Arts Unit to perform in their annual company production.
In 2016 Lap debuted his first solo work “Split Spectrum”, which was a part of the ‘To Thine Own Self Project’ in Ashfield and will continue to develop this piece until completion. On a community level, he is a current member of Powerhouse Youth Theatre (PYT) ensemble and has work with companies such as Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP), Urban Theatre Projects (UTP), Shopfront Theatre. He recently starred in “Suburbist” which has been developing for over a year, before premiering at Powerhouse Youth Theatre then debut at ATYP as a part of their CAMEO program. Lap has recently been accepted into National Theatre of Parramatta’s ‘Page to Stage’ program and is also a member of Playwrights of Parramatta.
Lap has recently started his own theatre company, Perennial Theatre Company, a small platform in which he uses to showcases all his works. He strongly believes in the transformative power of stories and aims to transcend performances that can withstand the test of time.
